89 East Coast Neighbor Hood Crips
The East Side (E/S) 89 East Coast Crips, also known as the "89 East Coast Neighbor Hood Crips", are a long standing, primarily African American street gang founded in the unincorporated community of Florence in East Los Angeles, California; just north of Watts. The 89 East Coast Crips are a subset of the larger East Coast Crips umbrella gang. This gang falls under the East Side Crips/Neighbor Hood Crips card and are friendly towards all gangs under the Rollin 0s and deuce(2x) card. Despite falling under the Deuce(2x) card, the 89 East Coast Crips formed alliances with gangs falling under the rival Tray(3x) card such as the 42 Gangster Crips, 43 Gangster Crips, 48 Gangster Crips, 87 Gangster Crips and 97 Gangster Crips. This partnership came about due to the shared hatred for common enemies such as the Hoover Criminals and Florencia 13, and is known as the "Movin Coast to Coast" alliance. The 89 East Coast Crips also rival the 87 Kitchen Crips, 95 Compton Avenue Crips, 88 Avalon Garden Crips, Grape Street Watts Crips, the Family Swan Bloods, the 92 Bishops and all Sureños gangs. Younger members tend to wear New York Yankees or New York Mets apparel to show their affiliation with the Neighbor Hood Crips. They are cliqued up with the 97 East Coast Crips and are friendly towards all the other East Coast Crip sub-sets. Due to changing demographics and years of warfare with rival gangs, the 89 East Coast Crips' membership is not as large as it was during the 1980s and 1990s. As a result, a portion of their neighborhood has been taken over by the Hispanic Florencia 13 gang.
