Long Known for its problems with Drugs, Prostitution and severe homelessness Rideau St. is one of the city's most affected areas with most of the city's homeless population situated in the area. Crack cocaine is a huge problem and some local fast food resturants have even removed their washrooms due to the number of heroin addicts 'shooting up' in their washroom stalls. Ottawa Police have launched a new Street Crime Unit which has made over 85 arrests in its first month on duty, the arrests were made throughout Rideau St., Vanier, Centertown and the Byward Market.
