The Maples area of Winnipeg lies north of Inkster and west of McPhillips, in the northwest corner of the city. The Maples is thought of as one of Winnipeg's newer suburbs, but really the neighbourhood is well into adulthood; about 70 per cent of the homes in the area were built in the 1970s. New homes are still being built in the area, and the tony Amber Trails subdivision north of Leila has sprung up in the past decade. Almost two-thirds of people in The Maples are first or second generation immigrants, and nearly half of the people identify as a visible minority. Of these, 21.8 per cent are Filipino, and another 25 per cent are from other areas of South Asia. Unlike other 'problem areas', The Maples' average household income was just over the city's average of $53,000.
