The VVT (police believe) was formed in the early 1990s and named for Valvettithurai, a northern Sri Lankan town. This group traditionally dominates the west end of the city from their stronghold in Etobicoke. They were considered to be highly organized and very dangerous with over 250 members ranging in age from their early teenage years to men in their 30s. In the early 90's, the VVT had an ongoing war with the AK Kannan set out of Scarborough, which stemed from their native land (Sri Lannka). There was a brief truce in 1998 after community members brokered a peace deal in a Richmond Hill Hindu temple, but a homicide a year later renewed the fighting, until the infamous police raids in 2001.
Unlike their rivals, the VVT has multiple leaders who represent their respective territories through out the GTA, Waterloo, Hamilton, Ottawa and Montreal. Such areas include Kipling Ave. and Finch Ave, West/Steeles Ave west in Rexdale, Jane street/Keele street and Finch Ave,West in North York, Welesley N' Parliment in Old Toronto, Neilson N' Sheppard, Kennedy N' Eglinton/Lawrence/Ellesmere, McCown N' Finch and of cource Midland N' Eglinton in Scarborough. Even after the deportation of some prominent members the gang still is in operation threw its younger generation. VVT members are heavly involved in credit/debit card frauds, currency counterfitting, alien smuggling, robberies, extortion and weapons/drug trafficking.
