The Fruit Town Brims are an off-shoot of the original Fruit Town Pirus founded in 1974 by a former member who moved to the westside of Los Angeles. The names of these gangs derive from an area in north Compton where the streets are named Cherry, Peach and Pear. But since most gangs on the westside operated under the Brims umbrella, it was named the Fruit Town Brims, as opposed to carrying the Piru banner. Most FTB members attended John Muir Jr. High School. During the 1970s there was the 30s Fruit Town Brims and the 40s Fruit Town Brims. The 40s Fruit Town Brims were located from 41st Street (north) to 48th Street (south) between Vermont (west) and Figueroa (east). Their most revered Crip rivalry is with the Rollin 30s Harlem Crips.
