James Dewitt Yancey (February 7th, 1974-February 10th, 2006), known by his stage names J Dilla or Jay Dee, was a hip hop producer from Detroit, Michigan.
J Dilla's career began with work focusing on local artists, most noticeably Phat Kat and Proof, before working with The Pharcyde, De la Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest in 1995, producing the near entirety of ATCQ's Beats, Rhymes and Life, as well as The Love Movement.
